The evening began with a warm welcome and a taste of Slovenia’s culinary heritage. Long wooden tables were dressed with baskets of crusty bread, wedges of aged Slovenian cheese paired with dried fruit and nuts, and sweet treats from local bakers. Aromatic rosemary sprigs and artisanal olive oil celebrated the bounty of the surrounding countryside. Every bite told a story of family recipes, organic farms, and small producers whose craft sustains the region’s identity.
As the square filled, the stage lights cast a violet glow on the Gothic façades, creating a magical setting for the much-anticipated performance by the Saša Avsenik Ensemble. Carrying forward the legacy of his grandfather, the legendary Slavko Avsenik, Saša and his musicians filled the night air with lively Oberkrainer melodies — a sound deeply woven into Slovenia’s cultural fabric. The audience, a vibrant mix of cruise guests and locals, swayed and tapped along, their smiles reflecting the ensemble’s infectious energy.
Between the music, attentive waiters in crisp black and white served fine Slovenian wines, their glasses catching the last of the twilight. The atmosphere was both intimate and grand — a celebration not just of music, but of connection.
