The global meeting at sea of Azamara cruises fleet with the ships Azamara Quest, Journey, Pursuit and Onward was a historical milestone for the City of Koper and the Port of Koper. For the first time in the port history, four ships from the same cruise line were docked at the passenger terminal. The view was amazing! From the early morning meeting at sea to a professional manoeuvre into the port, performed by each Ship Master on the bridge, the day scenario happened to be unique.

To celebrate this memorable moment all officials from the four ships we invited for a Plaque Exchange Ceremony at the historical venue of Koper, the Pretorian Palace. The officials were greeted by the Mayor of Koper, Aleš Bržan, congratulating and expressing his support to the cruise industry.

The director of the Koper Passenger Terminal, Mr. Mitja Dujc went further to congratulate also the Ships’ Masters for a flawless operation in the early morning and highlighting the importance of the historical milestone that was achieved by Koper.

The opportunity was ideal to showcase Slovenia as the green, outdoor and boutique destination. Mrs. Maja Pak the director of Slovenian Tourism Board welcomed the brand and explained the aim of Slovenian tourism strategy that aims to be sustainable and safe. Whereas, the head of the department of business communications with the Slovenian Tourism

Board, Mrs. Karmen Novarlič, hosted a wonderful video presentation of Slovenia’s diversity. The audience was introduced to the different regions of Slovenia that are mesmerising in their pure nature.

Azamara’s strategic itinerary planning director Mr Mike Pawlus expressed the importance of the ships’ global meeting, and said that the itinerary planning for the ships from all over the world to meet at one destination took up to 5 years of coordination and planning.

The event was coordinated by the mayor’s adviser Mrs. Jana Tolja, who organised the flawless Plaque Exchange Ceremony. The plaques were created just in a few hours, as the sisters’ meet happened earlier in the day.

Being for a day the focal point of a cruise ship fleet, seeing the satisfaction of the guests, local inhabitants, destination and the cruise line, is a reward for all the parties that were involved into the planning, conceptualisation and logistical operations to make the day unforgettable.
